POSITION DESCRIPTION, COLLABORATIONS AND FACILITIES: The faculty member will engage in advancing the agricultural education program in ACEL by demonstrating excellence in teaching, research, and extension outreach. The faculty member will be expected to teach face-to-face and online undergraduate courses that support agriscience education students and graduate courses that serve students across the ACEL M.S. and Ph.D. curricula. Academic and career advising is expected. The successful candidate will assume a leadership role in representing ACEL in creating with Ohio Team Ag Ed a focused statewide plan for professional development opportunities targeting school-based agriscience education teachers to assist them in applying research-based approaches to effective instructional practices that promote learning and cognition. A novel research agenda that leverages the remainder of the appointment with pre-service and in-service educators and their unique needs in learning and cognition is expected. The faculty member is expected to interact closely with all components of ACEL and to collaborate with our partners at Ohio State ATI. In addition, the candidate will engage with targeted key partners campus-wide and in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), including, but not limited to OSU Extension and with Ohio Team Ag Ed (Ohio Department of Education, Ohio Association of Agricultural Education, and all university agriculture teacher educators). The incumbent will also be expected to seek internal and external research support and capacity building funds.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a comprehensive program that includes engaging in dynamic interdisciplinary scholarship, outreach, and teaching.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ph.D. in agricultural education or closely related field; excellent written and oral communication skills. The candidate must have an excellent record relating to having taught secondary agriculture and served as an FFA advisor (for no less than 3 years). An expressed interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching excellence. Ability to provide excellent advising for both academic and career purposes. Research expertise in an area that complements agricultural education and the ACEL mission. In particular, the candidate must provide evidence of being able to successfully contribute to programmatic focus of professional development opportunities for education practitioners statewide. Applicants need to provide evidence of their ability to secure extramural funding from private and public sources as well as evidence of scholarly ability and productivity.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to work collaboratively with faculty from other degree programs in ACEL and a willingness to contribute to the overall ACEL mission. Experience in the following areas is desirable: supervising student teachers, mentoring individuals from underrepresented groups, applying agricultural education expertise in international settings. Experience or evidence of interest in addressing CFAES grand challenges of Sustainability, One Health, Rural-urban interface, Preparing the next generation of scientists and leaders.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses – across modalities from face-to-face to completely online – in agriscience education.
- Advise undergraduate majors and minors and graduate students.
- Develop a focused program of research addressing learning and cognition needs for pre-service and in-service educators.
- Create and lead professional development programming for agriscience education teachers to assist them in applying research-based approaches to effective instructional practices that promote learning and cognition.
- Seek externally funded grants and contracts in support of the candidate’s scholarship of service.
- Serve on ACEL, CFAES, and OSU committees.
