Ramey completes internship with OSU Extension: Adventure Central

Aug. 11, 2017

Kristen Ramey, of Dayton, completed an internship this summer with The Ohio State University Extension at Adventure Central in Dayton, Ohio.

During the internship, Ramey provided primary group leadership for 25 youth as part of a summer day camp. Her responsibilities included planning and leading the learning activities with all activities focusing on weekly themes around STEM, nature, healthy lifestyles and skills needed for the 21st century.

Ramey also provided supervision and risk management oversight for other aspects of the day camp and served as an adult support for the teen-led overnight camp experience for 100 youth.

“Our urban youth development program focuses on engaging youth as learners and supporting their practice and mastery of both content knowledge and interpersonal skills,” said Nate Arnett, Director/Extension Educator, Adventure Central. “Kristen jumped right in and engaged with the team of staff and teens from day one. She was constantly interacting with youth in the program and always with a smile on her face.”

Ramey will return to Ohio State in August to continue her degree in community leadership. The community leadership major prepares Extension educators to lead positive change in their communities. Students complete coursework in program and people development, planning and leadership and gain the skills necessary to work with people of all ages and develop them into agents of change.
