  1. ACT attends Professional Development Conference

    Seven members of the Ohio State chapter of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) are attending the National ACT Professional Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.

    The Professional Development Conference provides ACT members with the opportunity for professional growth and networking opportunities with leaders in the agricultural communication field. The University of Florida is the hosting chapter with the theme “Making Magic Happen.”

    Four alumni of the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership were recently recognized at the 2014 National Association of Agricultural Educators annual convention in Nashville, Tenn., November 18-22.

  3. Faulkner completes internship with National FFA Organization

    Shelby Faulkner, of Urbana, served as an intern this summer with the National FFA Organization in Indianapolis, Indiana.

  4. Penhorwood receives national broadcasting scholarship

    Ohio State student Joel Penhorwood was awarded the Glenn Kummerow Memorial Scholarship at the National NAFB Convention in Kansas City, Mo on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

    Presented by the National Association of Farm Broadcasting, this scholarship is given to a junior or senior studying agricultural communication with a concentration in broadcast media. It is a $5,000 award.

  5. Remembering John Starling

    John Starling, professor emeritus in the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership, passed away on Friday, October 24. Dr. Starling was a legend in Ohio agricultural education and our department owes much to his pioneering presence, commitment, and leadership in the agricultual education discipline during a period of expansive growth.

    We extended our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

  6. ACEL Searching for New Faculty Member

    The Department of Agricultural, Communication, Education, and Leadership is conducting a search to fill a faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level. The position will be part of our Community Leadership program.

  7. Ray certified as CASE Master Teacher

    Tim Ray, a graduate student in the Agricultural and Extension Education doctoral program, has been awarded CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education) Master Teacher certification.

  8. ACEL to Sponsor EXTENSION Africa Conference

    The Center for African Studies (CAS) and partnering departments will host an international conference October 20th and 21st, 2014 on Agricultural Extension and Food Security in Africa.  The conference will feature paper presentations on food security, extension, gender, environment/climate change, private sector, information technology, youth and related issues on African development. The conference will be hosted at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center (Day 1) and the Fisher College of Business (Day 2).

  9. Ohio State ACT Wins National Chapter of the Year

    The Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) chapter at The Ohio State University was presented with several national awards during the Ag Media Summit held in Indianapolis, July 26-30, 2014.

    The chapter was presented with the National ACT Chapter of the Year for the 2013-2014 academic year. Ohio State also won the award in 2009, 2010 and 2012.

  10. Alumni Board to Host Fall Event

    The Alumni Board for the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership will host an alumni tailgate and chili cookoff on Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the Agricultural Administration Auditorium from 3-5pm.

    Judging will take place at 3pm, so all entries should arrive at 2:30pm. Each winner will receive a trophy and his or her name on a plaque in the ACEL office.

    All alumni of and current students in the Department are encouraged to attend.
